Will your IT systems hold up over the holidays?

The holiday season is fast approaching. It’s the glorious time of year where you can kick back and relax without having to worry about work for a few days. That is, unless your IT systems suddenly fall apart. To prevent Murphy’s law from ruining your holiday, we’ve listed a number of tips that will ensure you can really wind down this Christmas.

Fix lingering issues before you leave

If there are minor problems or odd quirks in the system that you think have the potential to grow into bigger issues, now is the time to fix them. Tackle them head on before the company closes for the holidays to make sure they don’t wreak havoc just as you’re tucking into some Christmas pudding.

Don’t do major updates / upgrades

Of course it is important to always apply the latest security patches, however if you’re planning a major hardware refresh, or you’re looking to reorganise the office, the precious […]

The secret to brain power

Health, Stress and IT

IT can be stressful! Updates, viruses, server failures, network outages – I need a holiday just at the thought of them! When you rely heavily on data and the internet, it can be difficult to keep a cool head when things go wrong. Below are a few simple but effective tips to nip stress in the bud and keep you functioning at your optimal level of productivity (and sanity).

It’s all in the mind

Taking part in activities that stimulate your brain is essential. Step away from the social media and put your device to better use. There are a variety of online resources available to help exercise your brain and keep your mind sharp. Try apps such as Luminosity and Brain HQ for fun ways to strengthen your memory, speed and attention.

Learning something new also helps to develop your cognitive capacity. Whether it is learning a new language or a musical instrument, there […]

Microsoft Clutter: Love it or Loathe it

Microsoft have recently introduced a new feature called ‘Clutter’ in Office365. Clutter helps Outlook decide what emails you do not need to read immediately, and moves them into a folder called Clutter – out of your inbox. If you have been experiencing missing emails, try locating a folder called Clutter, they might just be hiding away in there.

Although Microsoft means well with this feature, for some it may just be a little too invasive to actually be helpful. Clutter was created to help manage your inbox but for some it may just end up creating confusion. Others may want to improve the way it assesses incoming emails.

Loathe it? Turn it off!

Follow these steps, or call Zynet Customer Support Desk to assist you:

  • From Outlook, click File… click the link to access your account on the web (see example below)
    access web version outlook
  • This will take you to the web […]

Password Manager LastPass was hacked last month, so what?

The Internet is full of uncertainties so be very careful about what information you choose to share on it. It’s not because people are all malicious and constantly trying to have a go at hacking you, it’s because the Internet was designed to be free and open. It’s been made too easy for the “baddies”.

You probably heard about LastPass getting hacked – although a minor breach, LastPass did ask every user to update their master password. They were confident that actual stored passwords weren’t stolen, but user email addresses, authentication hashes, and password reminders were deemed “compromised”.

What else is insecure?

Though the hack doesn’t seem to fundamentally undermine what LastPass does, it’s still concerning to see it happen to a widely used, consumer-friendly provider of strong individual cybersecurity. If anything, the LastPass incident should remind us all that security needs to stay front of mind.

Losing your password is terrible because it makes you vulnerable to […]
