“Two-factor authentication” sounds fancy but it’s just a techy way of saying there are two layers of protection applied to an online account – your ordinary password, and another code usually SMS’d to you. So, if someone gets hold of your password, they still won’t be able to access your account.

If you were lucky enough to get a new smartphone, tablet or laptop for Christmas consider recycling your old one through the free services of Mobile Muster or TechCollect.

Don’t forget to lock your computer when you walk away from your desk. Not only is it a good security measure, it also prevents any would-be practical jokers from sending random emails from your account.

To quickly lock your Windows desktop, press WINDOWS + L.

On a Mac, use CTRL+SHIFT+EJECT or CTRL+SHIFT+POWER if there’s no eject key.
